Preventive Care Services

ARESTIN is an effective antibiotic treatment that comes in powder form. This powder is easily placed inside infected periodontal pockets just after the dental professional finishes the scaling and root planing (SRP) procedure.

Dental Cleanings, Hygiene & Regular Checkups

A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental team to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.

Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in the dental office by the efforts of your dentist and dental hygienist to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health.

Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth.

Dr. Racanelli recommends visits every six months to maintain optimum health and keep track of any potential problems. More frequent visits may be essential in special circumstances, some of which include pregnancy, periodontal disease, alcohol or tobacco use, diabetes, HIV, etc.

Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, beautiful smile.

Dental Sealants

Dental Sealing and Prevention by Stunning Smiles Image

A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars, and any deep grooves ( called pits and fissures) of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth, easy-to-clean surface.

Sealants can protect teeth from decay for many years, but need to be checked for wear and chipping at regular dental visits.

Cross Fit Mouth-guards by Stunning Smiles ImageCustom-fit mouthguards provide the best fit and therefore the best, most comfortable protection for athletes who participate in baseball, gymnastics, volleyball, football, hockey, basketball, and any other sport that contains a high risk of injury. Upon impact, the mouthguard cushions the blow, preventing chipped or broken teeth and minimizing damage to the tongue, lips, and cheek lining.

Dentistry Nightguards by Stunning Smiles ImageThe technical term for clenching and grinding your teeth is referred to as Bruxism. Many times people are completely unaware of the fact this biting down too hard when they shouldn’t be, and a lot of the time in their sleep. Some people also believe their teeth should be touching at all times, yet this

too is a misconception. Unfortunately, most are not diagnosed with bruxism until it’s too late, and don’t even realize this habit has been ongoing.

Dr. Racanelli is able to notice physical signs of bruxism, yet may be observed over multiple visits, before recommending therapy. Some patients may be able to overcome the problem by changing their behavior. Others may need to wear a custom plastic mouth appliance, referred to as a night guard, to reduce the pressure and absorb the force of biting.

If you’ve been suffering from jaw pain, clicking and popping of the jaw or teeth sensitivity, contact Stunning Smiles of Las Vegas to discuss your options for a better nights sleep.

OralID is the newest FDA-approved oral cancer screening system. Our team performs the exam using the specially designed light. Any suspicious tissue is immediately and easily visible. This screening could literally save your life! Dr. Racanelli believes this potential life saving test is essential and is included in our standard of care at no additional cost.

Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal in Las Vegas by Stunning Smiles ImageRoot canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special medicated dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function. Teeth needing root canal therapy are not always symptomatic.

Having root canal therapy on a tooth is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would get infected, swell and lead to severe complications. Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the best solution, but extracting (pulling) a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth. Root canal treatment is highly successful and usually lasts a lifetime, although occasionally a tooth may have to be re-treated due to new infections.

Teeth that have root canal treatment should have a crown (cap). This will protect the tooth, prevent it from breaking, and restore it to its full function.
